Sustainable Living Tips

We will be posting ideas for sustainable living on our web site. This is just a beginning.

Walk

Walk. It's one of the best things you can do for yourself. If you can, use walking as your preferred form of personal transportation (certainly for short trips). The biggest part of our ecological footprint as Canadians represents our use of energy, and transportation is a big chunk of that.

Don’t Waste

Have your home inspected for energy use, and make repairs to ensure that energy isn't being wasted. Improving home energy efficiency will save you money. Funny, isn't it, how often economic and ecological good sense go hand in hand?

Know your own Footprints

Consider using an on-line calculator to estimate your own ecological foot-print, and then see what you can do to reduce it. Ecological footprints indicate how much ecologically productive land is needed to support your lifestyle. Canadians have among the largest per person footprints on earth. Different agencies get slightly different numbers, but a typical value is between 7.5 and 8.5 hectares - that's between 18 and 21 acres of land. We've book-marked some of these calculators on our Web Links page.
