Membership F.A.Q.
Have a question about your membership? Click the topics below for more information. If you have a question that is not answered, send us a message or give us a call at 905-527-1158 ext. 514.
What is included in my member admission?
Your RBG membership provides you with admission to RBG year-round, excluding some blackout dates. Simply present your membership card and one-piece of photo ID at the admissions desk upon arrival. Admission includes access to our cultivated garden areas (during regular operating hours). Hours are subject to change from season to season.
Can I bring guests with my membership?
The number of visitors you can bring under your membership is dependant on your membership type – only our Plus Membership and Charitable Membership include guest privileges. Guests must accompany membership cardholders and membership benefits are not transferable to guests beyond admission.
How long will it take for my membership to arrive?
Memberships purchased or renewed online are active immediately. Please show our admissions desk your confirmation receipt for entry prior to receiving your printed membership cards in the mail. Online membership sales may take up to 10 business days to be received.
Memberships purchased by phone may take up to 15 business days to be received.
Visit us in-person during regular business hours to purchase or renew your membership and leave with your membership package in-hand!
Note: Membership packages are mailed to the primary cardholder (purchaser) of the membership and all correspondence, current and future, will be addressed to this individual only. RBG only mails to one address, the address provided at the time of purchase.
When does my membership start?
Memberships begin at the date of purchase and are valid for one year.
How do I upgrade or change my membership?
If you would like to change your membership type at the time of renewal, simply select a different membership category, or if you are renewing in person, let us know at the start of the process.
If you would like to upgrade an active membership before the expiry date, please visit RBG Centre where a membership representative would be happy to upgrade your current category and print a new card for you.
How do I update my personal information?
If you experience a change in mailing address or contact information (including phone number and email address), please get in touch online, or notify the membership representative at RBG Centre during your next visit.
What happens if I lose my membership card?
There is a $10 reprint fee for all lost or stolen membership cards or parking passes. Cards can be reprinted once the fee is paid in person at the RBG Centre Kiosk.
How does member parking work?
RBG provides only one parking pass per membership. This includes the green rearview hanging parking tag (cardstock) and the new parking card for the Arboretum that was recently mailed out to all active members.
A temporary time-limited coupon is provided to members who are joining/renewing online. Please refer to your confirmation email for this coupon.
By issuing one pass, we are:
- Encouraging Carpooling: With only one pass, individuals may be more inclined to carpool, promoting sustainability and reducing traffic congestion.
- Ensure Equity: It ensures that all membership households have equal access to parking resources, rather than favoring those with multiple passes.
- Reduced Abuse: Limiting to one pass can help minimize instances of unauthorized use or abuse of parking privileges.
- Simplified Policies: It streamlines the parking policy, making it easier for everyone to understand and adhere to the rules.
- Cost Efficiency: Fewer passes will reduce administrative costs and other costs related to parking management and enforcement.
RBG mails to only one address; the address registered at the time of membership purchase. Memberships are not intended to be shared amongst individuals who live at different addresses.
The guest benefit on plus memberships only applies to complimentary admission for the guest when they arrive with the plus membership holder. Benefits are non-transferable to member’s guests. Parking is a benefit of membership.
CURRENTLY, parking passes are only required at RBG’s Trail Heads and Laking Garden, which is closed. The new parking card will grant you access to RBG’s Arboretum. All other areas (Rock Garden, RBG Centre) do not require you to display or use a parking pass at this time.
We understand that recent changes to member benefits, including the adjustment to parking passes, may raise concerns. As RBG continues to grow and evolve, we’ve taken feedback from our members to ensure we are providing the most value possible. Our focus is on enhancing your experience during visits to the gardens and access to trails, which remain a core part of membership. These changes also allow us to allocate more resources to improving the gardens, expanding programming, and ensuring that our beautiful spaces are maintained for generations to come.
Your membership plays a crucial role in helping RBG fulfill its mission of conservation, education, and community engagement. While some benefits may shift, our goal remains the same: to provide you with an enriching, accessible, and inspiring experience every time you visit.
Why don't I receive member emails?
RBG members receive updates on upcoming events, programs, and more. It is possible we do not have the correct email address on file, or that you have unsubscribed from our email list. Please get in touch online and we can look into this for you.
Please sign up for our weekly e-newsletter here.
Don’t forget to check your spam / junk / promotions folders!
Can I change a named cardholder?
Membership cardholders can be changed at the time of renewal only, but if there is a special situation to consider please get in touch online and we’d be happy to try and help!
Can I share a membership with someone at a different address?
RBG does not support the sharing of a membership with someone who does not reside at your address.
