Royal Botanical Gardens’ living collection of cultivated gardens and nature sanctuaries create the opportunity for people to see and explore the connections between plants and human communities. In following its mission, the Gardens is committed to providing strong environmental educational programming and hands-on life experiences, in its own outdoor classroom, to the local community.

OUR INSTRUCTORS

Kathryn Bourbonniere has taught art courses at Royal Botanical Gardens for more than ten years. She holds a BSc and MA in art education.

Ian Bruce, ASCA certified consulting arborist and president of Bruce Tree Expert Company, has 35 years experience in arboriculture.

Jay Campbell is the president of the local chapter of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society.

Kayla Dixon-Muir is with the Riverdale Meadow organic community gardens.

David Fisher is head chef for Pepperwood at The Gardens Café.

Joh Friedrich is an experienced tai chi instructor.

Melissa Fuller is the conservation intern at Royal Botanical Gardens

Edith George is an ancient trees researcher in Toronto.

Josh Gordon is an interpreter at the Nature Interpretive Centre.

Kathryn Harrison is RBG’s acting species–at-risk biologist.

Lil Haworth is an accredited judge of horticulture and design, and an avid gardener.

Ian Hendry is our Nature Interpretive Centre manager. He has degrees in biology and education and has worked as an outdoor educator for more than 20 years.

Jill Holden is a certified personal trainer and Pilates instructor.

Natalie Iwanycki, RBG’s herbarium curator and field botanist, is also a certified instructor of Ashtanga and Hatha yoga.

Greg Klokoff trained under several world-class champion carvers and has won numerous ribbons for his work.

Nancy Lee-Colibaba has been conducting programs at RBG since 1982. She currently coordinates our children’s gardening, horticultural therapy and public programs.

Marianne Limberger has been involved with tai chi since 1988.

Claudette Losier is a local artist who has exhibited her award-winning art throughout Ontario.

Jim Lounsbery is the manager of horticulture studies at Mohawk College and now owns Vineland Nurseries, which specializes in dwarf and unusual conifers.

Cam Mather lives independently off-the--grid using the sun and wind to power his home and business. He has written books and produced DVDs on sustainable energy and organic vegetable gardening.

Mike McCallion, president of RBG Bonsai Society, has studied with several top bonsai artists and has won two international awards.

Christopher McLeod is a fine art photographer with his own commercial photography studio.

Anne Minnery is owner and operator of Boomer’s Pet Treats.

John Mitchell has worked at Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh for 26 years in the herbaceous and alpine area and is the alpine supervisor.

Daniel Morreale is an amateur mycologist and local organic farmer.

Paul Morris has a degree in biology and extensive experience in wetland and prairie restoration.

Cathy Nisbett is a founder of Cathy's Crawly Composters.

Gina Peers works in the art of chair caning and rush work and also teaches basketry.

Dr. Jim Pringle joined RBG staff in 1963. Besides being our plant taxonomist, Jim is an avid field naturalist and a keen birder.

Tami Proctor is a registered horticultural therapist.

Karen Robins is the spokesperson for the Alzheimer Society of Hamilton and Halton.

John Renaud is a master gardener and graduate of the University of Guelph and Humber College in horticulture and landscape design.

Cathy Swain is with Van Noort Bulbs.

Amy Taylor has been tea enthusiast and tea leaf reader for over 20 years.

Janet Tigchelaar is an Ontario home-craft judge and was a community food advisor for the former Wentworth County
