Plants & Conservation
We dedicate our expertise in horticulture, conservation, science and education to connect people, plants and place for the purpose of nurturing and preserving healthy growing life on our planet.
Horticulture and Collections
As a botanical garden, Royal Botanical Gardens acquires, collects, researches, exhibits, conserves and interprets a living horticultural collection. A key component of this role is the work done by the horticulture department which is responsible for 250 acres of cultivated gardens over five garden areas.
Nature Sanctuaries
The nature sanctuaries cover 900 hectares of land at the head of Lake Ontario forming a Nodal Park in the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Region.
Science
The objective of the Science Department of Royal Botanical Gardens is to generate and disseminate new knowledge focused on the world of plants, with emphasis on RBG’s own horticultural programs, nature sanctuaries, cultural and scientific history, and the relevance of plants to people and society.
Sustainability
We are a biodiversity based organization, and we know that climate change poses enormous threats to the plants that sustain our planet. Thus our mission, mandate and future are deeply connected to sustainability – working to meet our needs today in a way that doesn’t compromise the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
