About the Hamilton and District Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society

The Hamilton and District Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society has enjoyed well over fifty years of prosperity, and this continues to grow despite these unprecedented times of a global pandemic. We have approximately 150 members spanning all southern Ontario and beyond, including other provinces and states.

Over the past several decades, the number of dahlia enthusiasts has dramatically outnumbered the chrysanthemum growers to the point that all activities are centered around “all things dahlia”, but chrysanthemums are still part of our annual show.

Members of our society have many reasons why they love dahlias and for being part of our club.  Other than the pure enjoyment of growing dahlias, our society has a long legacy of successful dahlia exhibitors, with several members winning top awards at National Shows at the American Dahlia Society (ADS).

Our society also has several seasoned growers who have also had tremendous success at hybridizing new varieties which have gone on and won top awards within the ADS.

The American Dahlia Society (ADS) is an overarching organization that many local dahlia societies from across North America are affiliated with. The ADS (www.dahlia.org) has a tremendous amount of information available.  Our society has become known to have the most ADS members of any Canadian dahlia society.
