What is Giving Tuesday?
By Theresa Camastra, Development Coordinator, Royal Botanical Gardens
Giving Tuesday is November 29, 2022
Giving Tuesday is celebrated around the world the day following Cyber Monday. It has roots since 2011 as a simple way of encouraging people to do good for others, in the wake of the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It has become a globally recognized movement. It is a day when individuals, organizations and businesses come together to give of their time, resources, and good will. It is a day that has inspired millions of people around the world to work together to celebrate generosity.
“Giving Tuesday is a movement that unleashes the power of radical generosity around the world.”
People participate in Giving Tuesday in a variety of ways. They can donate to a favourite charity, volunteer, advocate for a cause, lend a helping hand, or simply share a story of goodwill.
If you are looking for a charity to support. Look no further, Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is the largest botanical garden in Canada, a National Historic Site, and a registered charitable organization with a mandate to bring together people, plants and nature.
Why support RBG? Here’s what some RBG supporters have to say:
I support RBG…
“because of its commitment and investment in building and preserving our natural environment and by extension, community well-being and family enjoyment. Thank you.”
“to ensure generations to follow us have a preserved, beautiful organization to support and visit and learn.” – Barbara Evans
“because I love the environment.”
“because without its support and direction we would lose one of the most ecologically diverse and significant areas in Canada. We, as city dwellers, need more access to nature and natural lands, not less.” Gloria Onishenko
“because they teach the public the importance of nature.”
“for the pure joy of fellow volunteers, a culture of kindness and caring, and the gardens are so healing”
“because of the happy vibes, education of our beautiful lands, and the preservation!” – Suzanne
