Wedding Venues at RBG

Inspired and surrounded by nature, RBG has various ceremony spaces for weddings. Whether your vision is an intimate affair of 20 people or a larger celebration with 250+, our gardens provide the perfect setting. Ceremonies at RBG are only offered alongside reception bookings. Ceremony-only bookings are not available at this time.

Rock Garden

Located 1km away from RBG Centre and established in 1932, the historic Rock Garden stands as the proud birthplace of the Royal Botanical Gardens. Embracing sustainable trends in garden design, the Rock Garden inspires with its captivating colors and textures throughout all seasons. The Great Room, spanning 3,455 square feet, provides a versatile space ideal for weddings year-round at the Rock Garden.

Clients may bring their own licensed, full-service caterer with an off-site commercial kitchen. A landmark fee is due 30 days before the event. Caterers must provide service staff and all necessary wares and equipment.

Wedding Venue Locations

RBG’s wedding ceremony and reception spaces are located on the border of Hamilton and Burlington Ontario.

Hamilton Wedding Venue: Rock Garden

1185 York Blvd. Hamilton

The historic Rock Garden includes an outdoor courtyard space for ceremonies, and the beautiful Great Room with a scenic view to the outdoor garden for your reception.

Burlington Wedding Venue: Hendrie Park / RBG Centre

RBG’s largest location, Hendrie Park / RBG Centre include 3 tented outdoor spaces for ceremonies, and an indoor auditorium for receptions.

Catering

Preferred Catering Partners

RBG has selected three catering companies to act as preferred vendors. These four caterers are best-in-class, and you will be able to select the caterer you feel is the best fit for your own meal plans and budget.

External/ Non-preferred Catering

You may bring any caterer of your choosing on-site. If the client chooses to bring in an established external caterer, a landmark fee of $2,000 + HST will be due to RBG 30 days in advance of your event date. The external caterer must be a full-service, licensed catering company, with a commercial kitchen and prepare the food off-site. Full-service requirement deems the catering must be accompanied by service staff, and fully supply the wares and equipment required to deliver the event.

Guests Garden Access

  • The outdoor areas at Royal Botanical Gardens are open to the public during events.
  • Guests have access to RBG public areas during RBG operating hours on the day of the wedding event.
  • Guests may arrive to the reception venue no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the event start time.
  • Guests arriving earlier are invited to enjoy garden areas.
  • Guests are NOT PERMITTED ACCESS to Hendrie Park, Mediterranean Garden or Lower Bowl of the Rock Garden after operating hours unless otherwise reserved.

Access Time and Event Time

Wedding Reception Venue Access Time

Up to 11 hours total and includes the time before and after your reception for set-up and pack-down. Our typical reception access time is 2 pm-1 am. Additional time is booked at $350/hour. The latest time to pack-down and vacate the space is by 2 am. Starting at your access time, clients and vendors can deliver and set-up additional décor, displays, etc.

Wedding Ceremony Venue Access Time

2.5 hours (90 minutes for set-up and guest arrival, 30-45 minutes for ceremony and 15-30 minutes for pack-down).

Wedding Reception Event Time

Up to 8 hours total and refers to your actual wedding event time, and where your guests are present in the space.

Photography

RBG wedding clients receive a complimentary photography permit for the garden of their event. The gardens remain open to the public during our operating hours. Photography permits do not provide exclusive access to the garden/permit areas. Permits are for the public area of the gardens.

  • Wedding clients will select the time slot that best suits their event timelines; 10 am-1 pm, 1 pm-4 pm, or 4 pm-7 pm. Subject to be modified based on RBG operating hours.
  • Photography is permitted any time within your booked venue space for the duration of your event.

Couples who do not have a wedding booked with RBG but would still like to take photos om RBG properties are required to book a photography permit.

Smoking

There is no smoking permitted anywhere on the RBG premises, including parking lots.
